Facebook Messenger for Pages was introduced as a product into Business Pages back in 2015, but has evolved and broadened in functionality since then. In this post I hope to help explain the context of the product so that you understand how it can be used for businesses who use Facebook. (Updated as of May 2020). Why you should use Messenger for Pages Today, people expect to be able to communicate with you on social media. You cannot pretend otherwise - because if you did, it would be to your detriment and result in lost opportunities. You need to embrace the fact that you are able to have two-way communication with your audiences. Facebook gives you ample opportunity to leverage ways … [Read more...] about Facebook Messenger for Pages
Facebook – The Constantly Maturing Platform | 10 Years On
This year - Facebook celebrates its 10th birthday. As I write this I reflect on the nature of the social space today - so much so, that I decide: shall I write this piece of content? Why do I question this? Because it will be heavily time based and there will be a limit to how long after today I will be able to share it. That...my friends is how the world of social sharing has evolved and Facebook spear headed our desire for a constant stream of up-to-date information in our day. (A little personal nightmare for "social" businesses who want to maximise each piece of content.) I was asked to speak on my local radio station this morning about Facebook on this milestone year and while … [Read more...] about Facebook – The Constantly Maturing Platform | 10 Years On
Function, Tool and Facilitator – The Dichotomy of Social Media
The world of the social space is coming into its 10th year (LinkedIn, May 2003; Facebook, Feb 2004) and boy has the landscape shifted and morphed. Enter: the world of even shorted attention span than Twitter (who knew?) of SMS-driven short … [Read more...] about Function, Tool and Facilitator – The Dichotomy of Social Media
My View on Facebook as a Social Media Platform

Posts are weighed by viewing popularity - so you may not always see the updates as they are sent...but rather it will depend on whether anyone has interacted with the content....and perhaps even more specifically whether you have been interacting with that particular page or person. Personal vs Business use You may need some guidance initially in order to know the differences in a personal use and business use (functionality wise) – because you can quite easily use your personal account for both uses. I seriously advise avoiding breaking Facebook rules and creating two “human being” … [Read more...] about My View on Facebook as a Social Media Platform
Harbour 32: BBC Northampton Interview | Social Media for Business
I was interviewed on BBC Radio Northampton in Jan 2013 off the back of HR bodies warning job hunters to be careful about what they post on Facebook and Twitter. In this recording of the interview you will hear me chatting with Helen Blaby who presents the lunchtime show that covers topical subjects daily. I got in contact with the station when they put some questions out on the Facebook about the subject. I cover some elements around: Using social media for good Having some personal responsibility for what you post on social media Understanding how platforms work (who can see what you post and when) Bad stories that the press like to hinge off the back of Social Media … [Read more...] about Harbour 32: BBC Northampton Interview | Social Media for Business
